NKT Cables was awarded the contract for the 170‑km cable for the Kontek HVDC interconnection between Bjaeverskov (DK) and Bentwisch (DE), rated 600 MW at 400 kV DC.
NKT Cables was awarded the contract to provide the 170‑km HVDC cable system for the Kontek interconnection between Denmark and Germany. During the original construction phase in the early 1990s, NKT manufactured and supplied the main ±400 kV DC cable pair forming the 600 MW asymmetric monopole link between the Bjaeverskov converter station in Denmark and the Bentwisch converter station near Rostock in Germany. The scope covered delivery of the full-length interconnector cable, including both parallel conductors along the approximately 170 km route, enabling cross‑border power exchange and enhanced security of supply for Zealand and northern Germany.
