In summer 2010 Energinet.dk had two new 600 MW, 400 kV mass impregnated cables installed in Storstrømmen and in the Baltic Sea by Nexans Norway to replace the "Old Kontek" submarine oil‑filled cables.
Energinet.dk contracted Nexans Norway in 2010 to install two new 600 MW, 400 kV mass‑impregnated HVDC submarine cables on the Kontek interconnector, replacing the ageing oil‑filled subsea cables. Nexans installed the new twin cables along the marine sections of the route, comprising roughly 6.9 km in Storstrømmen and 43.6 km in the Baltic Sea between Denmark and Germany. The work formed part of the Kontek subsea cable replacement programme and ensured continued reliable HVDC power transfer across the sea crossing.
