Hitachi Energy supplied the complete onshore HVDC converter stations for the Kontek interconnection between Denmark and Germany. The company delivered two 400 kV, 600 MW converter stations, one at Bjæverskov in Denmark and one at Bentwisch near Rostock in Germany, providing the AC/DC conversion required to link the asynchronous national grids across the subsea and land cable route. Scope covered design, manufacture and delivery of the converter valves, transformers and associated HVDC equipment, and management of installation and commissioning, after which the interconnection was handed over to the Danish and German owners in 1995. This work formed the core transmission technology underpinning the 600 MW Kontek link.
