Description
Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. was awarded a contract by German transmission system operator 50Hertz to replace part of the Kontek Germany–Denmark interconnector’s 400 kV land cable on the German side. The scope includes design, procurement, production, transport and civil works, as well as installation of a new XLPE‑insulated HVDC onshore cable system and associated components. The agreement also provides for more than ten years of maintenance services, including emergency response, to minimise system unavailability. The project retrofits ageing fluid‑filled land cable technology with a more reliable and environmentally friendly XLPE system, enhancing the long‑term performance and sustainability of the Kontek interconnector’s German onshore section.
