Kontek 3, a third 600 MW HVDC interconnector between Denmark-East and Germany, was included as project index 232 in ENTSO-E’s TYNDP 2016 Regional Investment Plan for the Baltic Sea region. The plan describes it as a future project promoted by 50Hertz Transmission and Energinet.dk, intended to enhance market integration and renewable energy integration, with an expected commissioning after 2030 and a preliminary configuration comprising a 600 MW VSC converter station in each country, 85 km of 600 MW DC submarine cable and 85 km of onshore DC cable, at an estimated cost of about €550 million.
