DELAYED +1yr (Apr 2026): Project communications and secondary sources report that Vattenfall originally expected installation for Kattegatt Syd, including onshore underground export cables and grid connection infrastructure, to begin around 2028, with the project in operation in the early 2030s. Since then, Sweden has changed its offshore grid policy so that Svenska kraftnät will not fund offshore connections, significantly increasing developers’ costs. Vattenfall executives have publicly stated there are very limited possibilities to move forward towards an investment decision on the original timetable without a new connection solution. By 2026 there is still no FID or announced main works contracts for Kattegatt Syd, and Swedish offshore wind projects are widely reported as delayed or paused due to policy and market uncertainty. In this context, starting onshore export cable and substation construction in 2028 is no longer realistic; a shift to around 2029 better reflects the likely delay while remaining compatible with an early-2030s commissioning. --- Project documentation states that installation of the Kattegatt Syd wind farm, which includes onshore underground export cables and associated grid connection infrastructure to the Swedish transmission grid, is planned to commence in 2028, marking the start of onshore construction activities for the Kattegat Syd Export connection.
