DELAYED +1yr (Apr 2026): Vattenfall’s Kattegatt Syd project page and Q&A state that the wind farm is planned to be in operation ("planerat drifttagande" / "stå färdig") in the early 2030s, without a precise year. Enerdata’s July 2025 summary, based on Vattenfall information, similarly notes that Kattegat Syd could be commissioned in the early 2030s and that no final investment decision (FID) has yet been made. Earlier communications cited in stakeholder articles indicated installation might start around 2028 with operation in the early 2030s, and our internal projection assumed full-power COD in early 2033. Since then, Sweden has withdrawn state financing for offshore grid connections and Vattenfall’s management has warned that there are very small possibilities to proceed towards an investment decision on the original timetable without a new connection solution. As of 2026 there is still no FID or supply chain commitments. Given this slippage of the construction start (now projected around 2029) and the wider offshore wind market delays, a 2033 full-power date appears optimistic. Adjusting COD to around 2034 keeps the project within Vattenfall’s own "early 2030s" window while reflecting a more realistic build-out period after a delayed FID. --- Vattenfall plans for the 1.2 GW Kattegat(t) Syd offshore wind project, including its export cable corridor and underground connection to the Swedish transmission grid near Varöbacka in Varberg municipality, to enter commercial operation in the early 2030s, initiating an operational phase of about 30 years.
