The German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) issued the Planfeststellungsbeschluss (planning approval / construction permit) for RWE’s 342 MW Kaskasi (Kaskasi II) offshore wind farm in early December 2020, making it the first offshore project approved under the new Wind Energy at Sea Act. This decision authorises construction of 38 monopile-based wind turbines and associated infrastructure on a 17 km² site northwest of Heligoland in the German North Sea, including several pilot turbines to test innovative technologies such as vibro pile driving and collared monopiles.
