On 28 August 1974, a 15.2 km strong-current power cable was laid between Endelave, just north of Kloben on the island, and Sønderby near As Vig on the Jutland mainland, establishing a subsea electricity connection. This subsea cable, later energized on 7 November 1974, replaced reliance on the local diesel power plant and secured alternating current supply from the mainland for Endelave.
