Two sets of 300 kV AC cables from Kårstø to Haugsneset supplying land-based power for Johan Sverdrup phases 1 and 2.
Equinor awarded Aibel an EPC contract for Phase 2 of the onshore power plant at Haugsneset, east of Kårstø, which forms the land-based hub for the Johan Sverdrup Phase 2 power-from-shore solution and the wider Utsira High area electrification. Under this contract Aibel engineered and constructed the expanded converter substation, pump station and associated infrastructure, doubling the plant’s capacity compared with Phase 1 to accommodate the second 80 kV HVDC link and power export to other Utsira High fields. Aibel performed multi‑discipline engineering for the building and all technical systems, and was responsible for construction, installation and integration of Siemens’ HVDC equipment together with HVAC cooling and auxiliary systems. The Power from Shore II plant was built from 2019 and handed over around the end of 2021, enabling increased low‑emission power supply from the Norwegian onshore grid to the Johan Sverdrup field centre and the Utsira High installations.
