On 21 March 2017, the Johan Sverdrup partnership (Statoil/Equinor, Lundin Norway, Petoro, Aker BP and Maersk Oil) took the DG2 decision to proceed with Phase 2 of the Johan Sverdrup development, which includes an additional processing platform, the Avaldsnes, Kvitsøy and Geitungen satellite areas, and power from shore to the Utsira High in 2022. As part of this decision, capital expenditures for Phase 2 were updated to an estimated NOK 40–55 billion, roughly half the earlier estimate when the PDO for Phase 1 was submitted, enabling further maturation towards the final investment decision and PDO submission planned for the second half of 2018.
