By 28 March 2023, NKT had finalised the Johan Sverdrup Phase 2 power-from-shore subsea cable system, the second pair of approximately 200 km ±80 kV HVDC Light cables connecting the Haugsneset onshore converter station near Kårstø to the Johan Sverdrup field centre on the Utsira High. The Phase 2 cables provide an additional 200 MW of capacity beyond the Phase 1 link, bringing total power-from-shore capacity to the field centre up to 300 MW and enabling the wider Utsira High area solution. The cables were manufactured at NKT's Karlskrona plant in Sweden and most of the offshore installation was performed by the cable-laying vessel NKT Victoria. The Phase 2 cable installation milestone marked the conclusion of NKT's decade-long campaign of cable supply to Equinor and Aker BP for the Utsira High electrification, which together with the AC tie-in cables to neighbouring Edvard Grieg, Gina Krog, Gudrun, Ivar Aasen and Sleipner platforms is expected to reduce CO2 emissions from the area by approximately 1.2 million tonnes per year.
