In 2014, the Norwegian government pushed through a policy decision to electrify all future oil and gas developments on the Utsira High area from shore, covering Johan Sverdrup as well as the Gina Krog, Edvard Grieg and Ivar Aasen developments. The measure established a requirement for around 250 MW of shore-based power capacity, creating the regulatory basis for the Ivar Aasen electrification solution via the regional power-from-shore scheme.
