In 2010, the operators of the Edvard Grieg, Ivar Aasen and Gina Krog fields initiated a joint study to evaluate a common power-from-shore solution for the Utsira High area, assessing the technical and economic feasibility of supplying the offshore platforms with electricity via high-voltage direct current (HVDC) rather than alternating current (AC), which was ruled out due to high transmission losses.
