132 kV three-core XLPE submarine/land HVAC interconnection between Portoferraio (Isola d’Elba) and Piombino (Tuscany mainland), total route length about 37 km (≈34 km subsea, ≈3 km underground).
Prysmian Powerlink partnered with Terna Rete Italia on the 2021 revamping of the Elba–Continente submarine power line, an HVAC interconnection linking Isola d’Elba to the Tuscan mainland. As Terna’s specialist cable supplier and contractor, Prysmian was responsible for manufacturing and installing the new submarine and associated land cable system for the Isola d’Elba–Toscana/Continente link, replacing and upgrading the existing power connection. The work involved delivering a modern 132 kV three‑core submarine/land cable system and carrying out offshore and onshore cable installation to improve reliability and capacity of the island’s grid connection to continental Italy.
