On 14 March 2023, Terna presented its 2023 Development Plan, in which the Ionian-Tyrrhenian Backbone—an approximately 800 km HVDC corridor comprising the 1,000 MW Ionian Link between Priolo (Siracusa) and Rossano (Cosenza) and the Rossano–Montecorvino (Salerno)–Latina section—was defined with an expected total capital expenditure of about €4.1 billion as part of the national Hypergrid investment programme.
