The export cable for the Paimpol-Bréhat tidal test site off Île de Bréhat was installed in 2012, providing the electrical connection between the offshore demonstrator area and the onshore grid. The 15 km, 10 kV DC cable, rated at 8 MVA and enabling up to 2.5 MW of injection to the public distribution network, was laid on a predominantly hard seabed with a largely unburied section protected by mechanical measures.
In 2012, EDF completed the electrical connection of the Paimpol-Bréhat tidal test site off Île de Bréhat, commissioning the onshore electrical substation at Launay (Ploubazlanec) and associated 15 km export cable, thereby enabling 2.5 MW injection capacity into the public distribution network and making the site France’s first operational tidal test site.
