IJmuiden Ver Gamma export cable system: 2,000 MW ±525 kV HVDC bipole with 2 parallel power cables, total route length ~165 km (about 157 km subsea and 8 km onshore) connecting the IJmuiden Ver Gamma offshore converter platform to the onshore grid at Maasvlakte/Amaliahaven near Rotterdam.
In March 2023, TenneT awarded NKT a major EPC contract to deliver the 525 kV XLPE HVDC export cable systems for three Dutch 2 GW offshore grid connections, including IJmuiden Ver Gamma, which connects to the onshore grid at Maasvlakte in the Port of Rotterdam. For IJmuiden Ver Gamma, NKT will carry out design and engineering, manufacture, delivery, project management, and offshore, nearshore and onshore installation and jointing of the ±525 kV bipole export cable system. Using TenneT’s 2 GW standard, NKT will supply both submarine and land sections of the power cables, corresponding to about 314 km of subsea export cable and 16 km of onshore export cable for the Gamma connection. The role spans late development (system and route design) and construction (cable production, installation and commissioning) phases of the project.
