525 kV XLPE HVDC export cable system for TenneT’s Net op zee IJmuiden Ver Alpha grid connection, approximately 176 km total route (about 164 km offshore, 12 km onshore) linking the IJmuiden Ver Alpha wind area to the onshore grid at Sloegebied/Borssele.
Prysmian Group was awarded by TenneT the grid connection projects IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek 1 under the Dutch 2 GW programme. For IJmuiden Ver Alpha, Prysmian is responsible for the full 525 kV XLPE HVDC export cable system linking the offshore wind area to the onshore grid at Sloegebied (Borssele). The scope covers design and engineering, production and delivery of the subsea and land HVDC cables, and offshore, nearshore and onshore installation including all jointing works. Prysmian manufactures the subsea export cables and the 12 km of onshore HVDC cables for IJmuiden Ver Alpha, produced at its French facilities and delivered to Vlissingen for installation. Onshore cable laying is scheduled to start in 2025, followed by offshore works from 2026, with the connection planned to be operational by around 2029. The role spans late development (detailed design/engineering) and construction (cable manufacture and installation).
