The Igoumenitsa–Corfu interconnection is a 150 kV HVAC composite cable link being developed to reinforce electricity transmission between the Greek mainland (Igoumenitsa, Epirus) and Corfu Island. The project scope announced by the cable supplier covers the design, manufacture, installation, prot...
In September 2025, Greek transmission system operator IPTO/ADMIE took investment decision and signed a turnkey contract for the third 150 kV Igoumenitsa–Corfu interconnector, committing just over €61 million for the project. The contract, awarded to FULGOR S.A. (Hellenic Cables), covers design, supply and installation of a composite submarine and underground cable system linking Corfu with the mainland, with works scheduled to be completed within 22–24 months of contract signing.
On 11 September 2025, IPTO selected Hellenic Cables (through its subsidiary Fulgor S.A.) as turnkey contractor for the Igoumenitsa–Corfu 150 kV composite cable interconnection. The signed contract, valued at about EUR 61.2 million, covers the design, manufacture, installation, protection and commissioning of approximately 18 km of three-core submarine cable and 13 km of single-core underground cable, with project completion expected within 22–24 months of contract signing.

The Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy (ΥΠΕΝ) issued the Approval of Environmental Terms (ΑΕΠΟ) for the Igoumenitsa–Corfu 150 kV interconnection, giving the green light for a mixed underground and submarine cable link between Aetos (Municipality of Filiates) and Ormos Potamou (Municipality of Central Corfu). The consent covers approximately 4 km of underground and 17.1 km of submarine AC cables, including integrated optical fibre cables, enabling ADMIE to proceed with the tender and implementation of the project, which will form the third 150 kV cable connection to secure Corfu’s electricity supply and accommodate at least an additional 60 MW of load under contingency conditions.
On 18 July 2024, IPTO/ADMIE initiated a tender for the high-voltage transmission line between Igoumenitsa and Corfu, a mixed underground and subsea 150 kV cable interconnection. The procurement notice covers the design, supply and installation of the cable system, budgeted at EUR 42.8 million, and aims to strengthen Corfu’s electricity supply via a third mainland connection, with completion then estimated by 2025.
In its preliminary Ten‑Year Network Development Plan 2023‑2032, IPTO confirms an investment program for the Ionian Islands of about EUR 100 million by 2025, listing a new interconnection between Igoumenitsa and Corfu among the planned projects. The Operator highlights this program as part of broader efforts to modernize Greece’s transmission system and ensure the safe supply of the islands from the mainland grid.
IPTO’s investment program for the Ionian Islands, presented within the context of its new Ten‑Year Development Plan 2023‑2032, explicitly includes a planned new high‑voltage interconnection between Igoumenitsa and Corfu. The Operator states that this program, totaling around EUR 100 million by 2025, aims to securely supply the Ionian islands from the mainland system, with the Igoumenitsa–Corfu link forming one of the key planned projects.
Greek TSO IPTO has awarded Hellenic Cables a turnkey contract to design, supply, install, protect and commission a 150 kV cable system interconnecting Igoumenitsa and Corfu, consisting of approximately 18 km of three-core submarine cable and 13 km of single-core underground cable. Hellenic Cables plans to complete the works and commission the interconnection within 22 months of contract signing, after which the new link is intended to enhance transmission capacity and reliability for Corfu and the neighboring Epirus region.
