On its IFA2 project page, RTE reports that key technical authorisations for the France–England interconnector were secured with the granting of a French Déclaration d’utilité publique (Declaration of Public Utility) in early 2017. This project-wide authorisation formed part of the regulatory timeline following public consultation in 2014–2015 and a public inquiry held from 8 August to 10 September 2016. The Declaration d’utilité publique confirmed the public-interest status of the IFA2 interconnection between Basse-Normandie and the south coast of England, enabling RTE and its partner National Grid to move the 1,000 MW, 200 km submarine and 30 km underground HVDC link towards the planned onshore and offshore works scheduled for 2018–2019.
