Offshore construction for the IFA1 HVDC link began in 1985 with mobilisation for subsea works across the English Channel. The offshore campaign comprised laying two bipolar subsea cables across the roughly 45 km undersea section between the UK landing near Folkestone and the French landing near Calais, together with seabed preparation and routing to avoid obstacles. These offshore installation activities preceded commissioning of the link in 1986.
