For the 2,000 MW IFA 2000 (HVDC Cross-Channel) interconnector, different converter station suppliers were selected for each end of the link: GEC built the Sellindge converter station in Kent, UK, and CGE Alstom built the Les Mandarins converter station at Bonningues-lès-Calais, France. This configuration was in place when the new 2,000 MW HVDC system entered operation in 1986.
