According to a 2017 analysis by the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA), the planned IceLink HVDC interconnector between Iceland and Great Britain—a roughly 1,000 km, 1,000 MW subsea cable with landfalls in northern Scotland and southeastern Iceland—was projected to be completed and become operational as early as 2027, enabling bidirectional power trading between the two countries.
