Ibiza–Formentera 132 kV HVAC three‑pole AC interconnection using two parallel 3‑core submarine cables (≈27 km subsea, 10 km onshore), double‑circuit 2×53 MVA link developed by Red Eléctrica.
Red Eléctrica awarded Prysmian Group the turnkey subsea cable contract for the 132 kV AC interconnection between Ibiza and Formentera. In 2021 Prysmian was selected to design, supply, install and commission two 132 kV three-core XLPE-insulated, single-wire armoured submarine power cables forming a double‑circuit link between the Torrent substation on Ibiza and the new 132 kV Formentera substation. The scope covered detailed cable engineering, manufacture of approximately 54 km of submarine cable and 20 km of underground land cable at Prysmian’s Arco Felice plant, marine laying and burial along the 27 km subsea route, and installation of the 10 km of onshore sections on both islands, followed by testing and commissioning. This contract spanned both development (cable engineering and design) and construction (manufacture, laying, burial and commissioning) stages of the Ibiza–Formentera HVAC interconnection.
