On 6 September 2021, the Dirección General de Política Energética y Minas of Spain’s Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge granted Red Eléctrica de España (REE) the administrative authorisation and construction permit, together with a specific declaration of public utility, for the 132 kV electrical interconnection between the Torrent substation in Ibiza and the Formentera substation. These approvals provide the key project-wide consent needed for REE to develop and construct the Ibiza–Formentera subsea and land cable link and associated substations in the municipalities of Santa Eulalia del Río, Ibiza and San Francisco Javier in the Balearic Islands.
