Red Eléctrica (Redeia) commissioned the new 132 kV HVAC double‑circuit submarine electricity link between Ibiza’s Torrent substation and the new Formentera substation on 9 June 2023, bringing the interconnector into full operational service six months ahead of schedule and in time to secure summer peak demand on both islands. The €96 million link, in service since June 2023, now reliably covers 100% of Formentera’s electricity demand under safe operating conditions and integrates the island into the wider Balearic and Spanish mainland power system.
