Between December 2019 and January 2020, GEM carried out a cable route study for Red Eléctrica for the planned Ibiza–Formentera interconnector, completing pre-lay geophysical and geotechnical surveys along two approximately 27 km corridors to confirm the optimal route, characterise bathymetry and seabed conditions, and assess installation risks. The work also included a Cable Burial Risk Assessment, hydro-sedimentary analysis, and fishing and marine traffic studies to define installation constraints and protection needs for the subsea cable.
