According to Norwegian authorities, Hywind Tampen has an expected economic lifetime of 19 years tied to the Snorre and Gullfaks field operations, and the wind farm is planned to be abandoned in 2041, with decommissioning costs shared among the project participants. This implies completion of decommissioning activities around 2041, after which the floating wind farm will no longer be operational.
Sound source characterisation of the operational Hywind Tampen floating turbines was undertaken and reported in 2025, measuring and analysing underwater noise from the operating wind farm.
A follow-up fishery survey was conducted in the Hywind Tampen offshore wind power field during construction and early operation to assess impacts on fisheries, with results reported in 2024.
By October 2023, Equinor stated that the investment forecast for Hywind Tampen had increased to about NOK 7.4 billion from an earlier estimate of around NOK 5 billion at PDO submission, mainly due to COVID-related costs, delayed and quality-affected deliveries, higher market prices, currency effects, and supplier compensation.

Construction of the Hywind Tampen floating offshore wind farm in the Norwegian North Sea was completed in August 2023, marking the end of physical build-out of the 11-turbine, 88 MW project located about 140 km offshore between the Snorre and Gullfaks platforms.
By May 2023, complete installation and operation of the 11 turbines at the 88 MW Hywind Tampen floating wind farm had been achieved, with the project fully connected to the Snorre and Gullfaks platforms and operating at full capacity to supply a significant share of their electricity demand.
On 14 March 2023, Equinor awarded Ocean Installer a contract on Hywind Tampen to transport and install five 2.5-kilometre dynamic inter-array cables in 260–300 metre water depths, connecting existing turbines to four new turbines being installed and commissioned in 2023 to bring the floating wind farm up to its full 88 MW capacity.
A dedicated research cruise was carried out at the Hywind Tampen offshore wind farm between 13 and 28 March 2023, documented in a cruise report that formed part of the environmental monitoring of the wind farm area during the early operational phase.
Equinor planned to complete installation and commissioning of four additional wind turbines on Hywind Tampen in 2023, with Ocean Installer contracted to transport and install five 2.5-km dynamic inter-array cables connecting these new units to existing turbines, thereby bringing the floating wind farm up to its full 88 MW capacity after commissioning activities are finished.
On 13 November 2022, power production from the first turbine at Equinor’s Hywind Tampen floating wind farm began, with electricity exported via the new offshore cable connection to the Gullfaks A platform in the Norwegian North Sea, marking the project’s first power delivery.
