On 24 June 2025, HEP-Operator distribucijskog sustava (HEP ODS) reported that the ongoing programme of submarine cable replacement, including the remaining Hvar–Vis section, forms part of the wider project "Modernizacija hrvatske distribucijske elektroenergetske mreže" with a total value of €286 million, of which €224 million are non‑refundable grants from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, confirming grant-based capital support has been awarded for these works.
On 11 September 2020, Hrvatska elektroprivreda (HEP) announced that over the following three years it would invest nearly HRK 30 million in reinforcing the electricity network on Vis, including major works to lay new 20 kV submarine cables on the Hvar–Pakleni Islands–Vis and Vis–Biševo routes as part of a wider programme to replace and construct undersea cables to improve security of supply for the islands.
On 11 September 2020, at the inauguration of the SE Vis solar power plant, HEP and HEP ODS representatives announced a multi‑year investment programme to strengthen electricity infrastructure on the island of Vis, including projects to reinforce the 20 kV distribution network and replace existing submarine cables such as Vis–Biševo. On 11 September 2020, Hrvatska elektroprivreda (HEP) announced that over the following three years it would invest around 30 million HRK in improving the electricity infrastructure on Vis, including a new undersea cable connection between Hvar, the Pakleni Islands and Vis (the Hvar–Pakleni otoci–Vis 20 kV submarine link), as well as a cable to Biševo and associated 20 kV lines. This commitment effectively launched the replacement/reinforcement project for the Hvar–Vis submarine distribution cable as part of HEP’s wider island network upgrade programme.
