On 16 September 2024, Enedis began onshore construction works for renewing approximately 6 km of the submarine medium-voltage cable connection between the mainland at Saint-Gildas-de-Rhuys (plage du Rohu) and the island of Houat, which also secures supply to Hoëdic. The works include preparation at the landfall with about 200 m of terrestrial trenching and 100 m of trenching on the Rohu beach, as part of a wider campaign scheduled to run until 4 October 2024 following geophysical studies to define the route.
In September 2024, Enedis Bretagne completed installation of a new approximately 5 km section of HTA submarine cable on the inshore part of the 17 km link from Saint-Gildas-de-Rhuys to the islands of Houat and Hoëdic, with works running in late September (including cable laying from 23 September) to replace the degraded nearshore segment and joint it to the historic cable, enabling the renewed link to be brought into service.
The 17 km submarine medium-voltage cable linking Saint-Gildas-de-Rhuys to the island of Houat (also supplying Hoëdic) has been in service since its installation in 1963, providing continuous electrical power from the mainland without recorded failures until recent inspections identified ageing-related anomalies.
