Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. was awarded an offshore export cable installation contract for the Hornsea 2 project by Ørsted Wind Power A/S, covering the OFTO export cable system between the offshore and onshore substations. The scope comprised preparation of the offshore export cable route, including geophysical survey, boulder clearance and seabed levelling by dredging, followed by installation and protection of three HVAC export cable circuits with a total length of approximately 380 km. Each export cable is around 130 km long and connects the offshore substation to the onshore substation via a 300 m horizontal directional drilling crossing beneath the sea defence at Horseshoe Point in the UK. Offshore activities were scheduled to start in 2019 with completion targeted for late 2021.
