By October 2020, the Hornsea 2 onshore substation at North Killingholme, which connects the offshore transmission assets to the National Grid, had substantially progressed and was entering its commissioning phase. Ørsted reported that work on the substation, constructed by Balfour Beatty, had been ongoing since April 2018 and that commissioning activities were underway as an integral step in preparing the Hornsea 2 transmission link for operation.
