220 kV AC high-voltage submarine cable systems (Eastern and Western export circuits) connecting Hornsea Project One Offshore Wind Farm in the North Sea to the UK mainland grid over a route distance of around 120 km.
ABB was awarded an order worth more than $250 million by Danish energy company DONG Energy to deliver a 220 kV high‑voltage AC submarine cable system connecting the Hornsea Project One Offshore Wind Farm – whose export transmission assets are now operated as the Hornsea One OFTO – to the UK mainland grid. ABB’s scope covered the design and manufacture of the 220 kV export cable systems for the Eastern and Western circuits, transmitting power over roughly 120 km from the offshore wind farm area in the North Sea to the east coast of England. These export circuits form part of the 1.2 GW OFTO transmission link, providing the main subsea power export paths from the offshore substations and reactive compensation station to the onshore grid connection.
