In December 2011, Ørsted (then known as DONG Energy) acquired a 33% share in the Hornsea offshore wind project from the original development consortium holding the Hornsea Zone lease. This transaction gave Ørsted a minority equity position in the project that would later develop the Hornsea Project One wind farm and its associated offshore transmission assets, including the Hornsea 1 OFTO export cables and substations.
