On 5 April 2016, NKT Cables announced it had been awarded a contract by DONG Energy to deliver 170 kilometres of 220 kV high-voltage AC submarine export cable system for the Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm, connecting the central circuit to the mainland grid and linking to the other circuits via two offshore interlinks. The order, valued at more than DKK 1 billion (around EUR 139 million), covers manufacture of the export cables in Cologne in 2017 and their delivery for installation in early 2018, forming a core part of the transmission assets later transferred to the Hornsea 1 OFTO.
