TenneT completed the Hollandse Kust Noord offshore grid connection and received a grid‑ready certificate at the end of March 2023 after final testing, confirming that the entire transmission link from the offshore transformer platform in the North Sea to the high‑voltage substation along the A9 motorway near Beverwijk is officially ready to bring green electricity ashore for the Hollandse Kust Noord wind farm.
Jan De Nul Group reports that its cable installation vessel Isaac Newton collected the first lot of sea cable from LS Cable & System in South Korea and installed four sea cables starting from the beach in the Netherlands in the spring of 2022, marking the start of export cable installation for the Hollandse Kust (noord) grid connection. This confirms that offshore export cable installation began in spring 2022.
By 4 March 2022, LS Cable & System had loaded the first batch of subsea export cables for the Hollandse Kust Noord and Hollandse Kust West Alpha grid connections onto Jan De Nul’s cable‑laying vessel Isaac Newton at its Donghae, South Korea, fabrication site, ahead of the first offshore installation campaign in the Netherlands. Jan De Nul also reported that its customised Moonfish cable trenching machine had successfully completed trials at Maasvlakte and was ready for deployment on the Hollandse Kust Noord export cable works.
On 21 September 2021, Waves Group was awarded the Marine Warranty Surveyor (MWS) contracts by TenneT for the installation of the Hollandse Kust Noord and Hollandse Kust West Alpha export power cables. Under this award, Waves Group will provide MWS services overseeing the export cable installation works for Hollandse Kust Noord, which were scheduled to commence in 2022.

On 4 March 2021, CrossWind, the Shell–Eneco consortium developing the Hollandse Kust (noord) wind farm, signed grid connection and transmission agreements with transmission system operator TenneT for the Hollandse Kust Noord offshore grid connection. The agreements formalise the realisation, connection, and power transmission between the wind farm and TenneT’s 700 MW offshore platform, setting out technical standards, liabilities during construction and operation, and regulatory compliance requirements for feeding power into the Dutch high-voltage grid at Beverwijk.
In 2020, TenneT signed contracts with the ENGIE Solutions–Iemants joint venture to deliver the offshore substations for the Hollandse Kust Noord and Hollandse Kust West Alpha grid connections. For Hollandse Kust Noord, the JV will supply the offshore transformer platform that collects power from the wind farm and connects it into TenneT’s 220 kV export cable system towards the onshore grid near Beverwijk.
On 21 April 2020, TenneT awarded a consortium of Jan De Nul Group and LS Cable & System the contract for the supply and installation of high‑voltage export cables for the Hollandse Kust Noord offshore grid connection (and Hollandse Kust West Alpha). LS Cable & System will design and manufacture two 220 kV AC export cable systems for Hollandse Kust Noord, while Jan De Nul will handle their transportation, laying, and protection to link the offshore wind farm area to the onshore Dutch power grid near Beverwijk.
In the third quarter of 2018, TenneT began preparing the project documents for the offshore cable installation for the Hollandse Kust Noord grid connection (together with Hollandse Kust West Alpha), laying the groundwork for tendering and contracting the high‑voltage export cable supply and installation works.
