Enedis Bretagne completed the renewal and installation of the first section of the HTA submarine cable supplying the islands of Houat and Hoëdic from Saint-Gildas-de-Rhuys, including cable laying from 23 September 2024 and jointing to the historic cable, with the new works brought into service on 1 October 2024 to secure the islands’ electricity supply following earlier-identified anomalies on the existing link. During the outage of the submarine cable, island electricity was maintained using generators to ensure continuity of supply for residents.
On 16 September 2024, Enedis Bretagne commenced onshore construction works at Saint-Gildas-de-Rhuys (sector du Rohu) as part of the renewal of the submarine HTA cable that supplies the islands of Houat and Hoëdic, including trenching and burial of the new cable across the beach to the intertidal zone, with works scheduled through 4 October 2024. This campaign replaces the first 5–6 km of the existing 17 km link from the mainland to secure and sustain the electricity supply to both islands.
On 10 September 2024, Enedis Bretagne started renewal works on the first section of the existing HTA submarine cable linking Saint-Gildas-de-Rhuys to the islands of Houat and Hoëdic, initiating installation of a new subsea power cable to secure the islands’ electricity supply after inspections had revealed numerous anomalies on the nearshore part of the link.
