HelWin1 HVDC export cable (HelWin alpha – Büttel)
Prysmian Group supplied the high-voltage direct current export cable system for TenneT’s HelWin1 offshore grid connection in the German North Sea. HelWin1 links the HelWin Alpha offshore converter platform to the onshore converter station at Büttel, Schleswig-Holstein, transmitting power from the Nordsee Ost and Meerwind Süd/Ost wind farms to the German grid. The project used approximately 130 km of Prysmian extruded ±250 kV HVDC cable in a symmetric monopole configuration, covering both the subsea route and the underground onshore section. Prysmian’s scope covered manufacture of the subsea export cables and the associated land cables required to complete the point-to-point HVDC link. This work formed part of Prysmian’s broader portfolio of German HVDC offshore grid connections, including BorWin and DolWin projects.
