Heerema Marine Contractors’ semi-submersible crane vessel Thialf installed the first three monopile foundations and transition pieces for EnBW’s 960 MW He Dreiht offshore wind farm in the German North Sea, marking the start of the foundation installation campaign. The XXL monopiles, about 70 metres long and up to 1,350 tonnes each, and the transition pieces were driven into the seabed using a hydraulic impact hammer with a bespoke double-walled noise mitigation system (T-NMS-10000) to comply with German underwater noise limits.
