On 15 October 2020, Gwynt y Môr OFTO identified a second break in the spare fibre optic cable within subsea export cable 3 (SSEC3), in the vicinity of which the main 132 kV power core of the cable section also failed, causing an export cable fault and Transmission Services Reduction on the link connecting Gwynt y Môr to the onshore grid. Gwynt y Môr OFTO reported the reduction to Ofgem and submitted an Exceptional Event claim, which the regulator accepted in February 2021.
