On 26 January 2026, National Grid Ventures and TenneT Germany entered into a cooperation to jointly develop GriffinLink, a 2 GW multi-purpose interconnector linking British and German offshore wind generation to both countries’ electricity systems. Announced at the North Sea Summit in Hamburg, the partnership establishes the two transmission system operators as co-developers responsible for undertaking onshore and offshore studies, building the business case, and analysing socio-economic costs and benefits for the project, which remains subject to a final investment decision and is anticipated to be operational in the late 2030s.
