Further survey work along the 170km marine route will be undertaken by vessels MV Seabeam, MV Edda Fonn and RED7 Jack-up rig Seariser 2. The objective of the GMS is to acquire all appropriate data for the confirmation of a preferred route for the High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) cable system.
MMT was awarded and carried out the marine survey contract for the Greenlink interconnector. The contract covered nearshore and offshore geophysical and geotechnical surveys along the proposed marine route between Freshwater West (Pembroke), Wales and Baginbun, County Wexford, Ireland. Survey operations commenced in September 2018 and were expected to take approximately 40 days. MMT deployed survey vessels (MV Franklin, MV Seabeam, MV Edda Fonn) and a jack-up platform (RED7 Seariser 2) to acquire bathymetry, sub-surface geology, environmental sampling, UXO investigations, infrastructure crossing inspections (using ROV) and geotechnical data including vibrocoring, piston coring and cone penetration testing to inform route selection, burial risk assessment and planning/consenting for the HVDC interconnector.
