Greenlink was first recognised by the European Commission as a Project of Common Interest (PCI) in the EU's initial PCI list (2013). The designation identified Greenlink as priority cross‑border electricity infrastructure intended to improve market integration, security of supply and renewable integration between Ireland and Great Britain.
