Green Volt, a planned 560 MW floating offshore wind farm being developed offshore Scotland by Flotation Energy and Vårgrønn under Crown Estate Scotland’s INTOG leasing round, is targeting first power in 2029. Both the official project website and the project’s Supply Chain Development Statement describe 2029 as the milestone year when the wind farm will begin exporting electricity, positioning Green Volt as Europe’s first commercial-scale floating offshore wind development. A 2025 project update from OffshoreWIND.biz reiterates that the wind farm is expected to produce its first power in 2029, confirming that this schedule remains current following major development steps. By the time first power is achieved, the project will have progressed through several enabling milestones already documented. Environmental surveys began in 2020 and full onshore and offshore consents were secured in 2024, together with a Contract for Difference (CfD) award in the UK’s Allocation Round 6 to support 400 MW of capacity. Green Volt is being delivered ahead of the larger ScotWind floating projects and is intended to supply low-carbon electricity directly to offshore oil and gas platforms, as well as export surplus power to the UK grid. The 2029 first power target therefore marks the point at which these decarbonisation benefits and associated supply chain and employment impacts are expected to start being realised.
