"At the heart of this initiative is the installation of a submarine High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) cable... with a length of approximately 2,800 km and reaching sea depths of up to 3,000 m. The cable will connect the West Sohag area in Egypt to the Dolo Substation near the Mestre Industrial Area in Italy." "Prysmian Group... is proud to be part of this international cooperation, contributing to the development of this vital initiative by leveraging on its HVDC technology portfolio, deep water cable installation know-how and experience with cross-border interconnections."
Prysmian Group entered into a memorandum of understanding with K&K Group, CESI and Siemens Energy at COP28 to support the Green Vein Egypt–Italy HVDC interconnector during its detailed feasibility phase. As a world-leading subsea cable manufacturer, Prysmian is contributing technical input on the submarine HVDC cable system that will link West Sohag in Egypt to the Dolo substation near Mestre in Italy over a route of about 2,800 km and sea depths up to 3,000 m. The company is leveraging its HVDC cable technology portfolio and deep‑water cable installation know‑how to help define the optimal technical solution and de‑risk the future implementation of this large‑scale interconnector, which is planned to initially transmit 3 GW of green electricity from Egypt to Italy.
