By 1 October 2024, the Italian side had appointed a Norwegian consulting firm to carry out preliminary studies for the 3 GW, roughly 2,800 km Egypt–Italy interconnection linking West Sohag to the Dolo substation, covering detailed route analysis, identification of starting points in both countries, and assessment of the Mediterranean depth profile.
