By 5 December 2023, an initial feasibility study for the Green Vein electricity corridor between Egypt’s West Sohag and Italy’s Dolo substation had been successfully completed, providing the technical basis for a proposed 3 GW, ~2,800 km HVDC submarine cable reaching depths of up to 3,000 m and intended to carry green electricity from Egypt to Italy while supporting EU–MENA–Africa power system integration.
