In January 2020, XOCEAN’s XO-450 unmanned surface vessel carried out seabed survey work at the operational Greater Gabbard offshore wind farm, inspecting the seabed around seven of the project’s 140 turbines located about 23 km off the UK coast. The remotely controlled vessel was monitored from an onshore control centre via satellite, with data validated in real time, marking a first use of such fully remote survey technology in the offshore wind sector for Greater Gabbard’s owners SSE Renewables and innogy/RWE.
