Onshore construction for the Greater Gabbard grid connection, including the new onshore 132 kV substation near Sizewell/Leiston and associated 132 kV land cable sections that form part of the offshore transmission assets, began in 2008 following state approval in October 2007. These onshore works enabled connection of the 504 MW Greater Gabbard wind farm to National Grid’s transmission system at Leiston.
